Bariatric canes are a mobility device designed for larger than normal users. With weight capacities up to 1000 pounds these specialty items are not found in the average mobility store. It is important that you not try to use a standard walking cane in place of a bariatric care because the standard cane is simply not designed to support the weight of a bariatric patient. Using a mobility device that is not rated for users weight is more dangerous than not using one at all, because if the user is depending on the item to support his weight while going down a step and the device breaks or bends under the load it can cause a worse accident than you were trying to prevent in the first place.
